Signs of concussion in sport posted by on January 23, 2012

Sometimes after a concussion you may feel as if you are not functioning as well as you did before the injury. Historically, concussions have been under-reported because there may not be any outwards signs of concussion. A concussion (kun-KUSH-un) is an injury to the tissue or blood vessels of the brain, even called a “closed head injury” or “mild traumatic brain injury” (MTBI).
While it is impossible to prevent concussions in sports, we can all do our part to minimize the risk. A diagnosis may be made when symptoms resulting from concussion last for more than three months after the injury, or it may be made starting within a week or ten days of trauma. Concussions and other brain injuries are fairly common.
