Winning Issues in Politics posted by on March 14, 2011

The two winning issues in politics are peace and prosperity. But only few men in the list of presidents of US had their term without wars. George Washington was a military genius who maneuvered the American War of Independence. Abraham Lincoln was undoubtedly a great human being, a great person. But he led his country into carnage like the Civil War, which left scars that still endure. That is the reason he is not considered a great president. On the contrary, James Monroe is famous for his foreign policy known as the Monroe Doctrine. He warned the European nations against intervening and interfering in the matters of Western Hemisphere. His presidential term is known as “Era of Good Feelings” in the history of America. Theodore Roosevelt was the first American and the first president to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace for his role in negotiating peace in the Russian-Japanese War. During the presidency of John Calvin Coolidge, the American economy experienced a rapid economic growth. Lyndon Johnson initiated many social service programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, aid for education and “War on Poverty” but became unpopular when he increased the number of American soldiers in the Vietnam War.
